A driving force behind Veteran of Foreign Wars, Walter J. Smith Post 511 Sportsman of the Year/Sports Hall of Fame Dinner which was a major event in New Britain from 1947-1994.....honored 84 city athletic figures, the likes of Harry Jacunski, Nick Tronsky, Dick Siderowf, Dr. Brenda Reilly, Ed Cody and John Toner, among others.....the 84 selected are members of the New Britain Sports Hall of Fame.....Dr. Liebman, who was Post 511's commander in 1949, died in 1992.
