Bernadotte "Bert" Loomis
Life-long resident of New Britain...originator of the dribble in the game of basketball...played on the New Britain YMCA's 1895-96 World Championship team which defeated the Nelson Athletic Club of New York in the title game...at one point, "Bert" was the state pole vault champion, and placed second in a national competition...was also an outstanding handball player...member of local YMCA for over 70 years...city's tax collector, 1914 to 1950...died 1959.
