Bob Barrows
Bob is believed to have hit the fist grand slam home run in New Britain Little League history, in 1950. And baseball wasn't even his best sport.
Half a decade later he quarterbacked New Britain High to back-to-back state championships in 1955 and 1956.
In an amazing athletic career that seemed to feature firsts, he began his New Britain High pursuit of excellence by throwing a 55-yard touchdown pass to John Darrow on the very first snap he took from center.
Bob caught Steve Dalkowski who is known as the fastest pitcher in the history of baseball when they were both seniors at NBHS. He and Steve also played for the unbeaten Caval Tool Bobcats in the graduate division of the JC-Courant League after getting special permission to do so as 16-year olds. Bob was the league MVP as the 'Cats went three years without a loss.
