Gerry "Tud" Flood

 

Starred as a player, and coached football, baseball and basketball.....at New Britain High School was the 1932 recipient of the Burns Memorial Award for Excellence in Scholarship, Citizenship and Athletics.....also excelled, from 1936 to 1940, on teams at the Teachers College of Connecticut (now Central Connecticut State University,) and was a key member of the 1939 unbeaten and untied (6-0) Blue Devils' football team.....received Gladstone Award as top student-athlete..... elsewhere, was recognized as one of the state's top pitchers while playing for such teams as the Cremos and Chance-Vought, and American Hardware, Landers and Fafnir in the New Britain Industrial League.....Dusty League MVP in 1935.....was standout as passer and kicker for the New Britain Blues, Bristol West Ends and Middletown Sebastians.....head baseball coach at NBHS, 1943 to 1952.....also assistant coach of football.....was, for years, Director of Recreation at Hamilton Standard.
