Merwin Jacobson
Born in New Britain on March 7, 1894.....nickname was "Jake".....went from city's ballfields to play in the National League for the New York Giants, Brooklyn Dodgers and Chicago Cubs during the period 1915-1927.....was teammate of such legends as pitchers Christy Mathewson, Burleigh Grimes and Dazzy Vance, and outfielder Zach Wheat, all members of baseball's Hall of Fame.....best season in the majors was 1926 when he hit .247 in 110 games for the Dodgers.....in all, professional baseball career lasted 19 years, 1913-1932.....died on January 13, 1978 in Baltimore, MD.....earlier years selection.
